ABOUT

MATSU has lived through many iterations since the 1980s, evolving as an expression of a singular vision. What began as Eastern Accent, a small shop dedicated to Japanese craftsmanship, has grown and transformed over time, eventually taking shape as MATSU on Newbury Street. After years in the suburbs and a pause during the pandemic, MATSU was quietly reborn and now finds its home in the historic neighborhood of Beacon Hill.

Family-owned and operated, MATSU draws inspiration from around the world, with a deep reverence for European and Japanese design. The store is a collection of voices, bringing together independent designers and small fashion houses whose work honors process, material, and time. Many of the pieces are created entirely by hand, from fabric sourcing to final stitch, often incorporating vintage textiles, antique buttons, and timeworn elements that carry their own stories.

We are endlessly inspired by the art of creation in all its forms. Our collections move fluidly between couture and everyday wear, grounded in the belief that dressing is not reserved for a particular occasion. The occasion finds you.

Alongside clothing, MATSU offers a considered selection of objects for living. Leather goods, delicate glassware, small figurines, jewelry, and pieces that invite touch, curiosity, and a sense of discovery. A space to explore, to gift, and to return to, where beauty is felt and meant to be lived with.

We invite you to step inside and experience it for yourself.

With Joy,

Dava, Masayuki, and Aya Muramatsu
